Oh wow, so guess what? Google might just be gearing up to show off some new smart glasses at the Google I/O shindig next week. Plot twist or totally predictable? You decide. Apparently, they’re hoping to compete with those funky Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.
I was just scrolling around and boom, there’s a video with Android Ecosystem bigwig Sameer Samat flaunting what kinda looks like these smart glasses. He didn’t exactly spill the beans on ’em, but hinted that folks at the event might catch a sneak peek of “some really cool Android demos.” Classic teaser move, right?
And because I have the skills (or just a knack for cropping YouTube shots), I zoomed in on these shades that give off serious Ray-Ban Wayfarer vibes—like, really. There’s a lone camera sensor perched on the left temple. Totally CSI moment, I know.
So there might be, or there is—honestly, it’s dreamy details above the camera. An LED? Maybe. Probably to say, “Hey, I’m watching,” every time a photo or vid is taken. Shades are apparently going for full-on feature rivalry with Ray-Ban’s thing.
Now, check this: the arms of these glasses look kinda chunky, probably hiding batteries and processors inside. Samat’s hint suggests these might be running some secret Android XR system. Sneaky, sneaky. Also, there’s this little gap—or not, could be a button—near his ear on the left side. For audio, perhaps?
Meanwhile, Apple’s doing their own smart glasses thing. Bloomberg said they’re creating a special processor for these gizmos. Who isn’t making glasses these days, right?
Anyway, back to Google I/O. Happening May 20-21. Loads of live keynotes, dev sessions, and who knows what else. Maybe they’ll actually talk about Android XR somewhere in there.
