Hey, so I was just watching this chat with Shuhei Yoshida—yeah, the PlayStation dude—and he threw out some thoughts that kinda stuck with me. You know how game prices are creeping up to like $70 or $80? Yeah, well, Yoshida thinks some games actually deserve that price. But here’s the kicker: he thinks this change should’ve happened ages ago. I mean, other stuff we buy got pricier way faster than video games did. Makes you think, right?
Anyway, he was talking to Critical Hits Games on YouTube or somewhere—honestly, I might’ve wandered off mid-video, it’s my bad. But GamesRadar caught it, so we’re good. Yoshida mentioned that not all games should cost the same. Kinda obvious if you think about it. Games are all over the place in terms of what they offer and how much they cost to make. It’s not like a one-size-fits-all deal, y’know? Publishers (or those indie developer folks) ought to set prices that match what they’re dishing out. I guess that makes sense.
And here’s something else he said that kinda made me pause: he reckons that even with the prices hitting $70 or $80, if the game is truly awesome, it’s still a bargain. Like, think about it. The amount of fun and stuff you get from a top-tier game is way more than other entertainment options. So maybe we should chill a bit on the complaining. But, I dunno, only if we’re sure on how we’re spending our cash though.
So yeah, maybe he’s onto something, or maybe it’s just marketing spin. Who knows.
