Alright, here we go! So I’m supposed to dive into this whole mess of a review about Blades of Fire, right? Let me just say, this game’s wild, and not in the way you’d think. MercurySteam and 505 Games crafted this adventure filled with mythical lands and, well, I’ve got thoughts. Tons of them.
So basically, guess what? Giants! I mean, I love giants but it seems they had this massive fallout — apocalyptic stuff, you know? They created humans with all their fancy steel secrets right before everything went downhill. Uh, why do I even remember this? Anyway, the story jumps thousands of years ahead, and bam! You’re Aran de Lira. Thanks, Forgers.
Here’s a cool twist: Queen Nerea — she’s casting spells like she’s on some serious power trip, turning steel to stone, just so her creepy army can rule. Suddenly, your sword options? Super limited. You can’t just slash around like it’s any ol’ hack ‘n’ slash, otherwise, you’re toast in no time. And, hey, there’s Adso de Zelk tagging along. A young brainiac from the Abbey. Think of him as your in-game Wikipedia, solving puzzles and all that. Hope he doesn’t charge by the hour!
About crafting? Oh yeah, you’re going to be all blacksmith-y, but cooler. You need these Forge Scrolls — who even comes up with these names, seriously — to boost your skills. I found myself staring blankly at lists of weapon stats, thinking, “Seriously? Weight, length, durability?” and then remembered I don’t even weigh my apples at the grocery store. But mixing weapons sounds fun, right?
Combat… ha! Like, three difficulty levels: Bronze for us daydreamers, Iron for the ‘I want a little spice’ crowd, and Steel for hardcore folks who thrive on game panic attacks. Mentioning the controls, it’s like trying to dance while cooking spaghetti — so many moves. Left stick, right stick, more buttons than your grandma’s old rotary phone.
Oh, and enemies! Over 50 with their sneaky patterns and armor colors to figure out, like you’re at some weirdly martial fashion show deciding who’s who. And skeletons? Hammer them good. Trust me, stabbing is a no-no.
And trophies, folks. Platinum dreams — a shiny collection! There’s this whole list, but let’s focus on smashing trolls and collecting health gems because why not?
Bit of a random note — is it weird that Queen Nerea reminds me of that one old teacher who was super strict? Turning steel to stone, sheesh. Anyway, if you’re hooked, grab it for PS5 on May 22. Sneak in for a 10% pre-order discount, too. Because, well… discounts.
Okay, enough rambling. Stay curious, enjoy the chaos of Blades of Fire, and maybe, just maybe, save some giants along the way.
