HoYoverse, yeah, the brains behind Genshin Impact (everyone’s been obsessed with it, right?), just dropped a bombshell about bailing on the PS4. It’s like, not only are they ditching updates on this older console by next spring, but pretty soon the game’ll just vanish from the PlayStation store like it never existed. And then by February 2026, say goodbye to all those in-game purchases you might’ve splurged on. It’s like, why bother? Seriously, come April 2026, trying to fire it up on a PS4 will be a no-go.
So, they’re saying something about “hardware performance and platform application size,” you know, the usual tech chatter, to justify the move. Starting September 9, 2025, Genshin Impact just ghosts the PlayStation Store. Didn’t download it by then? Oops, too late. Your game’s just gonna poof into thin air from the search results.
Then come February 25, 2026, kiss all those in-game purchases goodbye. If you bought stuff but haven’t snagged it in-game yet, you’ve got until February. After that, poof, gone.
And the biggie? Come April 8, 2026, game’s over. Can’t even log in on the PS4 anymore. But no worries, right? You can hop on over to Xbox Series, PS5, PC, or even freakin’ mobile if you want.
The confusing kicker in all this? They’re giving folks like an eight-month heads-up—plenty of time to brace for impact—but why’s the mobile version apparently coping fine when the PS4 is getting axed? I mean, the PS4’s old-ish tech (think 2013), but it’s wild they think it can’t handle what’s still good on phones. Android and iOS devices seem to heft the load pretty okay. So weird when you remember the PS4 rocked 8GB RAM and 500GB storage at launch. Doesn’t that sound like enough?
We poked HoYoverse for answers, and they blurt out, “To better support future version updates and optimize game performance, Genshin Impact will raise its device specifications.” Blah, blah, check out the official notice for more.
It’s a bummer for PS4 peeps, for sure. Some old Androids might hit the wall soon too. But yeah, makes you think about how shaky modern gaming really can be.
Oh, almost forgot—got the updated scoop from HoYoverse around 11:59 a.m. on August 6, 2025. So, yeah, they’re sticking to their guns on this one.
