Xbox has some exciting first-party games up its sleeve that haven’t yet been unveiled. During a recent episode of the official Xbox podcast, Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios, discussed some of the big titles on the horizon, including South of Midnight and Doom: The Dark Ages. However, he also had some news about the anticipated Fable reboot from Playground Games, which has now been pushed back, aiming for a 2026 release.
In all honesty, Xbox’s first-party studios are in the zone right now. Coming off the critically acclaimed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, released at the end of 2024, Xbox is setting the stage for an even grander 2025. Just last week, Obsidian’s Avowed was warmly received, and fans can look forward to Compulsion Games’ uniquely styled South of Midnight in April, followed by Doom: The Dark Ages in May. Later this year, Obsidian plans to release The Outer Worlds 2. Looking beyond 2025, Xbox has a slew of huge titles lined up, such as the reimagining of Perfect Dark, the RPG Clockwork Revolution inspired by BioShock, and Gears of War: E-Day, in addition to Fable.
On the latest Official Xbox Podcast episode, Craig Duncan sought to ease fans’ disappointment about the Fable delay by hinting at what’s next on Xbox’s agenda. Without giving too much away, he assured players there are several unannounced projects in the works by saying, “We’ve got a bunch of stuff we haven’t announced, so obviously I spend a bunch of time with that…but yeah, we have lots going on.”
It seems numerous first-party Xbox studios could soon be ready to break the silence on what they’ve been working on. For instance, it’s been over three years since Double Fine released Psychonauts 2, leaving many wondering what’s next for Tim Schafer and his team. Moreover, Ninja Theory could be gearing up to showcase their next big project, while Obsidian’s teams often juggle multiple endeavors simultaneously. With Xbox’s major franchises, we might see something new from the newly rebranded Halo Studios using Unreal Engine 5, or perhaps a new Forza Horizon from Playground’s team. Don’t forget about the possibilities brewing within Bethesda and Activision Blizzard’s studios, which might also be preparing to reveal fresh titles.
As of now, a definitive date has yet to be pinned down for Xbox’s June showcase, but it’s likely coming soon. That event is where fans should expect the unveiling of new first-party games, whether they’re from Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, or elsewhere within Xbox’s impressive roster. All eyes will be on Xbox to see if it can outdo last year’s stellar lineup.
