Man, I guess Niantic Spatial is at it again, huh? So, they finally launched this game called Hello, Dot on Quest 3. Mixed reality pet game? Sounds like a mouthful. Honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around “mixed reality” — it’s like reality wasn’t complicated enough! Anyway, they pulled it from early access (whatever that means) and dumped a bunch of new stuff in it.
So here’s the thing. They call this game a “mixed reality showcase” — kind of fancy talk for “look what we can do!” or something. They had this thing called Peridot on mobile last year. I never played it, but it was an AR experience, apparently. Now, they’re dabbling into stuff like Peridot Beyond for Snap Spectacles and some other wild names I can’t keep up with. Stuff like Pause… and Snap-a-Dot… I’m just here like, “Who comes up with these names?”
Now Hello, Dot just got a bunch of fresh features. No idea how they come up with these ideas, but here it goes:
1. Dots with personalities — I bet they’re like those quirky friends you can’t stay mad at.
2. An arcade machine — bringing back the old-school vibes! You can have play dates with dots. I mean, who even thought of that?
3. AI stuff with voice prompts — you talk, they listen. Sort of.
4. Games like Dotball and eating contests — just me, or does that sound like an odd combo?
5. What’s this about future AI guides? They’re hinting at something big.
And there’s this picture (yeah, visuals are important) showing off their new store. I’m one of those people that notices the weirdest things. The image just screams “Buy me!” or something.
Okay, where was I? Oh, new arcade machine. You do fun stuff like play dates, dodgeball (sorry, Dotball!), or eating contests — I might just join for the food part. You play around and earn in-game cash. Like Monopoly money, but cooler. Then splurge on dot accessories because why not?
Some guy named Asim Ahmed, who probably knows way more than me, says they’re diving deeper into this mixed reality magic. Something about tech enhancing our lives. Sounds like a vision or a dream (cue dramatic music). We’ll see if tech truly weaves “wonder” into our daily grind.
Before I forget! They added a Gen AI-powered customizer. Grab a mic, say what you want your dot to look like, toss it in a paint bucket, and voilà! Dot’s got a new look. Sounds like getting a haircut but more fun.
And if all this rambling made you curious, check out Hello, Dot on the Horizon Store. If you have Quest 3 or 3S, that is. It’s free. Free is nice.
End of ramble. Oh, and if you’ve made it this far, thanks for sticking around. Now I’m off to figure out what else Niantic Spatial is cooking up. Or maybe not. Who knows.
