The Legend of Zelda popping up on Nintendo’s shiny new gadget, the Switch 2, was kinda underwhelming. Anyone else expecting fireworks? Anyway, the only biggies out right now are basically revamped versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. You know, the classics with a fresh coat of paint. They tossed in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment too, which mixes Zelda with Dynasty Warriors. Not mad about it, just… okay.
So, Zelda lovers aren’t exactly starving for new stuff. Tears of the Kingdom is just a toddler at two years old, and hey, Echoes of Wisdom came out last year. But sniffing out the next big Zelda release might take a hot minute. Something to chew on: what if, next time, they really shake things up?
Alright, let’s talk about that Master Sword. The iconic blade, Link’s trusty sidekick. In the Switch versions, it feels like they put it on a diet—less oomph. You have to do these specific quests just to get it, and its role? Downplayed big-time in Echoes of Wisdom.
In Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, our beloved sword doesn’t pack as much punch as you’d think. Base attack is a 30? Really? Even when it gets all glowy and “awakened,” it’s still weaker than some other weapons in the game. Oh, and it needs recharging too. Fun times.
Now, what gives? The sword’s supposed to be a legend, for crying out loud. “Blade of Evil’s Bane,” “Sword that Seals the Darkness”—remember those nicknames? Hope the next Zelda adventure in Switch 2 territory amps it up. Also, if they could wave goodbye to the whole durability thing, that’d be swell. Too many folks grumbled about that feature in the past games, they even tried to patch it up a little with the Switch app. Meh, not sure it worked.
But I digress. (I think?) The next game should just wrap the story tighter around the Master Sword. Tears of the Kingdom did a nice job, but skipping that part? Kinda odd for such a monumental weapon, don’t you think? Making it a must-have could remind everyone why it’s such a big deal.
Guess we’ll just have to see if the Switch 2 can bring the Master Sword back to its glory days. There’s something special about that blade, beyond just the pixels on a screen. Let’s hope they dial it up to eleven next time.
