Alright, so there’s this new game, Drag x Drive, coming out for Nintendo’s new Switch 2. Honestly, the announcement kinda caught everyone off guard. I mean, wheelchair basketball with mouse controls? Who would’ve guessed? But hey, Nintendo just dropped a fresh gameplay trailer, and it’s giving us a peek into what this sports-based game is all about, right before it hits on August 14.
So, the trailer—it’s like 7 minutes long and crammed with all sorts of info. And just a side note, it’s pronounced Drag “and” Drive, not “x”—yeah, the trailer told us that. It breaks down the controls, tricks, and even shows what folks can get up to outside the main court. It’s a lot to take in.
Anyway, on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, we were scratching our heads, wondering about the different modes besides the usual 3-on-3 matches. Turns out, they’ve got minigames you can dive into between matches. Sounds like it could shake things up a bit. There’s online play too, plus a training mode and the option to play against bots.
Oh, and here’s the scoop straight from Nintendo:
You can jump into online lobbies, game with folks from everywhere. Once six people are in, the game kicks off! You can have 12 people in a Public Park. Invite your buddies (with or without that GameChat) to Friend Parks—those are like private hangouts where you get to decide what you wanna do. You’ve got two courts and up to six players per court. Plus, some challenges to see who tops the park’s leaderboard!
Offline? No worries. Play against computer-controlled opponents and sharpen your skills. There’s three different drivers—Guard, Center, Forward—pick whichever suits your vibe. They’ve all got different stats, so find your match.
Need a break from the court? You can race in the Circuit Sprint minigame, take on shooting contests, or join Park-wide games like Rebound Scramble. There’s even jump rope to practice bunny hopping, if that’s your thing.
Complete various challenges to earn trophies, unlocking all sorts of customizable helmets. Dress up your driver with armor, frames, and tires. Choose colors and slap on your favorite number for that perfect look!
These features sound pretty neat, but what do you reckon? Could Drag x Drive be Nintendo’s surprise hit? Guess we’ll see. Meanwhile, share your thoughts on the trailer.
And hey, if you’re itching to try it out early, there’s this Global Jam happening August 9-10. Basically, it’s a chance to demo the game and mess around with friends before the actual launch:
– August 9, from 3 am to 7 am PT
– August 9, from 5 pm to 9 pm PT
– August 10, from 9 am to 1 pm PT
Fingers crossed Drag x Drive nails it when it launches on the Switch come August 14.
