Baldur’s Gate 3’s developer, Larian Studios, is doing something kinda big—if you care about storytelling in games, that is. They’re putting together a whole new department focused on just that. You could say it’s like they’re bolting a turbocharger onto their storytelling engine, trying to keep the magic alive in their future projects.
Larian’s been around for a while, crafting these epic CRPGs since forever. Okay, more like since 2002 with their Divinity series. But it wasn’t until Baldur’s Gate 3 came roaring onto the scene in 2023 that they really hit the mainstream. That game was in Early Access for practically a century—or three years to be exact—before finally dropping. And, bam! Suddenly, every RPG fan can’t wait to see what Larian dreams up next.
So, back to this new department thing. Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian, posted on X (yeah, not Twitter, but X—don’t ask me, it’s silly) that they’re on the lookout for folks who get the art of good storytelling. Positions are opening up in their Guildford, England studio. Fancy titles like Story Department Lead and Senior Story Editor are out there, waiting for the right creative minds. I mean, if you’re fluent in the language of epic tales and dramatic arcs, maybe this is your moment.
Oh, and about those other games Larian’s juggling right now. We know they’re working on two whole new titles. Yes, two! Talk about ambition. Having a dedicated storytelling team seems like a no-brainer to keep things consistent and fresh across these projects. I mean, if Baldur’s Gate 3 was a narrative triumph without such a team, imagine what they can pull off now.
Interestingly, Larian’s being all secretive about these upcoming games. Classic, right? But, with Baldur’s Gate 3 setting such high expectations, maybe they’re playing it smart by taking their time. Speculation is swirling, naturally. Could we see Divinity: Original Sin 3 next? Who knows. Maybe they’re keeping us in suspense on purpose.
Anyway, Larian’s clearly brewing something special, and they’re in no rush to spill the beans. We’ll just have to sit tight, dream about what could be, and maybe, just maybe, get a chance to dive into these new stories when they’re good and ready to share.
