You know, I don’t usually get all hyped up about video game announcements, but today’s PlayStation State of Play threw something at us that I just can’t stop thinking about. It’s like, okay, picture this: PlayStation Studios, Marvel Games, and Arc System Works decided to mingle. Weird, right? But they did, and what popped out is this game called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The name might sound kinda fancy (what’s with the “Tōkon” anyway?), and it’s hitting PS5 and PC in 2026. I mean, that’s ages away, but whatever, something to look forward to, I guess.
So yeah, Marvel Tokon, it’s gonna have all those characters we geek out over, like Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Oh, and villains too, like Doctor Doom. Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Ghost Rider… the gang’s all here. They’ll be acting all comic-book-y, which, honestly, is the only way to do it.
Kazuto Sekine, the big guy on this project, said they wanted this game to be for everyone — beginner or pro. Normally, you’d have to juggle a few characters in these games, but here you just pick one and roll with it. Apparently, button-mashing is legit because they’ve made the controls super flexible. You just press a few buttons, and bam, chaos with backup characters everywhere. Sounds wild, right?
I think the 4v4 fights might make it extra chaotic, though. Could be a blast or a disaster, who knows? Sekine seems to think this setup’s gonna shake things up in the fighting game world. I’m here for it, whatever it turns out to be — though maybe I’m getting ahead of myself.
Oh, and Sony tossed in another little surprise — Project Defiant, this wireless fight stick thing. They’re using this super-fast PlayStation Link tech. And for the old school folks, there’s a USB-C wired option. Not sure why that jumped out at me, but hey, sounds cool!
So yeah, lots to chew on. We’ll see where this goes, but right now, it’s got me kinda curious. What about you?
