Alright, so here’s the scoop…
So, everyone’s been chattering about Xbox and how they’ve been steering clear of VR, right? But then, plot twist, some thread on X (was Twitter, but rebranded – don’t ask me why, it just is) pops up with these pics of what looks like this Xbox-branded Meta Quest. Yep, you heard it right. Somebody must’ve pulled the post, but not before @bmfshow snagged it and re-shared it. Wild, right?
I mean, I saw this tweet that literally said, “Holy heck this looks amazing!!!” Yeah, with three exclamation marks like they were yelling it into the void. Whatever, June 20, 2025. I think that date means something in the grand scheme… or not.
Anyway, Windows Central – you know, they’re kinda in the know – spilled the beans about an Xbox VR headset being a thing in 2024. And now, outta nowhere, you might just get your hands on this gizmo by June 24 for $399. Xbox is on a roll, seems like. They’re hooking up with Asus for these Xbox Ally gaming handhelds, except they ditched their own pet project, some “Project Kennan” or whatever. Guess that got canned.
Oh, and Gamesandwich.com chimed in. Apparently, there’s this black and green Xbox Quest 3S dropping like a surprise, same date – June 24. Mind you, $399 ain’t pocket change. But you’re getting a chunk of stuff: headset with 128GB memory, an Elite Strap (fancy, I guess), a controller, and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Like, that’s a lot to process in one go.
Quick sidebar, there was this picture of the Xbox that got, oh I dunno, flack when it launched. Kinda makes more sense now that Xbox is all over the place – consoles, PCs, mobile, VR, you name it.
Now, catch this irony: Phil Spencer, the big cheese at Microsoft Gaming, was against a native Xbox headset. Something about “nobody’s asking for VR” on Xbox. LOL. Fast forward, and now they’re all about Xbox Cloud Gaming and saying “This is an Xbox” like it’s a rallying cry. Gotta love marketing spin, huh? Some games even work on Meta Quest through Cloud Gaming – ain’t that a thing?
And so, Xbox is spreading its tech wings, from screens big and small, to now VR headsets. They’re everywhere. Like, everywhere. Just waiting to see where this rollercoaster ends. Or if it ever does.
