Alright, so here’s the deal. Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, one of the OG engineers at Meta, threw down a memo earlier this year. He was all like, “2025 could either be the year Reality Labs becomes legendary or, well, a total train wreck.” Really, he said something like that. And honestly, who even knows at this point?
Boz seems kinda hyped about the potential, but in the end, it’s all up to the market gods, right?
He was chatting with Bloomberg this Thursday, saying, “We’ll see how it looks by the end of the decade, but it really feels like this year’s the big one.”
Those Ray Ban AI glasses from Meta—they’re apparently the talk of the town. People love them, even the competition’s paying attention. Like, since last October, over 2 million pairs flew off the shelves. And get this, they outsold the regular Ray Bans even before the AI jazz kicked in. Crazy, huh?
Now Google’s teaming up with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on their own smart eyewear. Yeah, everyone wants in on the action. Apple’s also planning to drop some new smart glasses in 2026. Apparently.
Boz basically said, “We used to be hiding out, and now, boom, we’re suddenly in the mix with something everyone wants. So now the race begins, and what we do this year? It’s gonna matter like, a lot, compared to any other year.” Not his exact words, but you get it.
But hey, competition doesn’t mean squat if folks don’t start loving Meta’s AR and VR toys, which might finally push the whole industry to get on the same page tech-wise.
He dropped some wisdom too: “The market, especially hardware, lags behind,” he said. “You gotta see those early signs. You really need to trust your gut to some extent.” Must’ve picked that up from Sheryl Sandberg when she was COO.
“Sheryl used to say companies usually screw themselves over rather than getting crushed by rivals,” Boz shared. “So, what we’re focusing on is whether we’re hitting our standards—not so much worrying about the competition.” Makes sense, I guess.
Meta’s got these big dreams for the year, right? And Boz says they’re on track.
“We’ll know by year’s end if we nailed our goals,” he said. “And in five years? We’ll find out if that was good enough.”
So, yeah, keep your eyes peeled. Could be epic. Or not? Guess we have to wait and see.
