Over the past week, we’ve seen a slew of tantalizing leaks centered around what might just be the final design of the Nintendo Switch 2. The speculation hit a high note yesterday when Dbrand unexpectedly unveiled a detailed 3D model of the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring their redesigned Dbrand Killswitch case meant for handheld PCs. In a chat with The Verge, Dbrand’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, mentioned they had access to the actual dimensions of the Switch 2. Their insights were gleaned from a 3D scan of the real hardware, revealing dimensions of approximately 270mm in width with Joy-Cons attached (200mm without), 116mm in height, and 14mm in thickness.
The rumored Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a significantly larger 8-inch screen compared to the 7.2-inch screen of the Switch OLED and the 6.2-inch of the original Switch. An intriguing addition is the extra “C” button on the right Joy-Con, possibly for capturing moments. The new design features Joy-Cons that detach magnetically with a smoother curve, along with USB-C ports on both the top and bottom. Moreover, it includes a broad U-shaped kickstand akin to the enhanced stand found on the Switch OLED.
All the current information about the Switch 2, presumably set to debut in the first quarter of 2025, suggest a sleek evolution from the Switch OLED. However, it probably won’t sport an OLED screen. Instead, leaks suggest an 8-inch 1080p IPS LCD display, which we’re keeping our fingers crossed will be a quality upgrade over the Switch’s LCD.
Diving into the specifics of Dbrand’s Killswitch case for the Switch 2, it appears they haven’t included typical upgrades like a robust kickstand or full-body enclosure, usually seen in their Killswitch line for gadgets like the Steam Deck. This is likely because the design must accommodate the detachable Joy-Cons, resulting in a case that splits into parts and is fastened together with a stylish teal bungee cord. Given Dbrand’s reputation for high-quality phone and handheld cases, we have confidence that the final product will live up to expectations.
Many of you might be hoping for a glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 in its pure form. While we’re not quite there yet, Dbrand’s leaked specs coincide with a 3D-printed prototype shared by the SwitchUp YouTube channel earlier this week, offering a sense of what the actual console might look and feel like.
In the grand scheme of things, Dbrand’s revelation—presumably from a place of freedom from non-disclosure agreements—suggests we’re on the cusp of an official announcement for the Switch 2’s release. While prior comments placed the launch before the end of 2024, Nintendo has marked March 2025 as the cutoff date to unveil Switch 2 details. As that date edges closer, companies like Dbrand are already gearing up production and generating excitement for Nintendo’s next big leap in handheld gaming.
