Lemme tell you, Virtuos is trimming down. Yeah, it’s all over the place now. Some French journalist — Gauthier Andres, I think — popped it on BlueSky. He mentioned they’re letting go of about seven percent of their crew. That’s like 300 folks, give or take.
So, Virtuos? They kinda came out and confirmed this buzz. Apparently, 200 people from their Asian team are getting the boot, plus another 70 in Europe. Oh, and in France? Less than ten. I mean, not a massive number, but still.
The company claims it’s all about adapting. Something about the ever-shifting needs of their partners and whatnot. I dunno, maybe I’m overthinking it — or maybe not.
They mentioned something about ramping up their services, like diving headfirst into crazy complex game development stuff. Y’know, high-value projects, from game engineering to, I dunno, art or live services. Whatever that means, right?
And for those affected? Virtuos says they’ll get some form of separation pay. Sort of a “thanks but no thanks” package? Plus, they’ll apparently help them find another gig. Maybe that’s a good thing. Or just wishful thinking?
Virtuos, if you didn’t know, worked on that Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remaster. It dropped earlier this year. Plus, they’ve got their hands on the upcoming Metal Gear thing. Oh, and they’ve been busy with Dune: Awakening, Cyberpunk 2077, and Sea of Thieves. Yep, pretty big stuff.
This kind of feels like a trend, doesn’t it? I heard Microsoft’s had a few rounds of job cuts too. Like four in the past year and a half. What a whirlwind.
