Ugh, so I’m here rambling about this World War Z VR game—yeah, VR and all that jazz. Had a gander at the first level on Quest. And, wow, zombie overload, like, seriously. The novel, the flick, few games, now add VR to the mix. It’s like, will 200 zombies on screen make my experience better or just give me a headache? Read on, maybe, if you care.
Zombie games, right? Same old, same old. Fewer zombies, more terrifying. But this one flips it—single zombies are basically meh, swat ’em away like pesky flies. Clusters though—oh boy, monstrous by VR standards, seriously.
Anyway — wait, what was I saying? Right, the zombies. Individually, they’re puny. A rifle’s enough to scatter them. But when they gang up, you’re in for a wild dance party. Just you, spraying bullets, laughing as your ammo dwindles.
It’s not all ho-hum runners though. I only peeked at the tutorial and Tokyo mission. Sometimes, a red-tinged zombie pops up, mixing things up—a nice little scare in what feels like a zombie playground. Keeps you from dozing off, y’know?
Ran into some quirky zombies—gassy ones, ones that fling gunk, screamers that act like zombie DJs, bomb ones too. Didn’t expect polite zombies, but here we go, like in martial arts flicks where they queue up for a beating. Except, these polite zombies respawn faster than you can say “braiiins.”
More is more, I guess? I dunno. Shooting 20 zombies at once is fun, if you have ammo. But the game loves putting a zombie parade in your way. So, got to think, strategize, herd them into chokepoints while praying your AI buddies have your back.
Oh, the sidekicks—total duds. Just stand there in corners like they’ve forgotten they’re in a game. Useful as a chocolate teapot. World War Z VR screams for multiplayer, but nope. Just you and those dimwitted AI pals.
Some unexpected twists had me grinning. In Tokyo, planting bombs was like a mini brain-teaser—rotate this, shake that. Keeps you exploring, and hey, more goodies. By the end, you’re just drowning in zombie chaos.
Is it fun, though? Sort of, yeah. More chunk on the bone than I thought, planning to dive deeper when it’s fully out.
There’s more to yammer on about: shooting feels — meh, guns — varied but no upgrades, and moving around — all options there. The plot though, outside of ’bang bang,’ is anyone’s guess.
World War Z VR drops August 12th on Quest, SteamVR. I’ll have a full spiel then. Want in early? It’s $20 on Horizon Store and Steam. So, are you in, or just zoning out?
